Imphal, January 20 2022:
Development Committee, Kakching Khunou has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to look into acts of uprooting of party flags and gun violence in Kakching Khunou area.
The Development Committee on Thursday handed over a wheelchair to differently-able Adhikarimayum Subash Sharma (70) of Kakching Khunou Thongam Ward no 1.Issuing a press release in this regard, Committee secretary Thingam Risikesh contended that it is the right of the voters to vote for their preferred candidate or party, However, it is undemocratic to threaten to withdraw government benefits for not erecting flags of any particular candidate related to the elections.
Risikesh recalled that that the social welfare department recently conducted an assessment camp for differently able persons under the ADIP &RVI scheme in Kakching Khunou community hall.
During the camp, Adhikarimayum Subash was selected as a beneficiary and a person who claimed to be a BJP worker came to deliver a wheelchair to his home.
"A few days later, the alleged BJP worker returned and requested to erect a flag of BJP at Subash's residence.
However, Subash and his family refused, to which the worker aggressively told them to return the wheelchair and the family did so.
After hearing news of the incident, Development Committee Kakching Khunou presented the family with the wheelchair," he conveyed.
Risikesh then urged all political parties and candidates to stop propagating violence in Kakching Khunou area such as the recent slashing incidents of Congress flags and houses in Kakching Khunou Lamyeng Ching Ward no 2 area and gun attack at homes with Congress flags.
