Ukhrul, May 13 2021:
A lawyer of Imphal-based Justice Foundation (VIS) on Wednesday served a legal notice to six doctors of Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) charging them of dereliction of duty and simultaneously directing them to immediately report to their place of posting.
In separate notices sent to each of the six derelict doctors, advocate Rajenpou stated that the legal notice has been served under instruction from his client namely, LM Thanmi Shimray, a social activist from Ukhrul district.
The six doctors namely, gynaecologist Dr Md Yahia Khan, ENT specialist Dr N Pinki Chanu, and three medical officers (MOs) Dr M Sanjeet, Dr Geetchandra Tongbram and Dr Priyadarshini Sou-grakpam were all transferred to the hospital through an order on April 12.Similarly, earlier on January 27, 2021 another order had transferred anaesthetist Dr Tikendrajit Ningombam to UDH.
In the notice, the lawyer said that in spite of the orders issued in the name of Governor, even no.MED402/11/2020HS-HEALTH dated April 12, 2021 and 2/29/2021-M(T&P) dated January 27, 2021 respectively in respect of joining and posting at Ukhrul District hospital, the said doctors have not yet reported for discharging their duties at the hospital till date.
According to advocate Rajenpou, the purpose of the legal notice is to make sure that the doctors comply with the order of the higher authority by reporting to their duties personally to render human services as per Service Rules and the oath each of them had taken at the time of joining their service.
The lawyer further stated that his client Thanmi Shimray would be compelled to take recourse to suitable and appropriate legal actions including a Writ Petition before the High Court in the matter without further notice, if the said doctors fail to report and join their duties immediately on receipt of the legal notice.
"I have been instructed by my client to inform you this, that is, if it is not possible to settle the matter amicably through discussion," the lawyer added.
Mention may be made, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL - Tangkhul Youth Council) had also urged the state government recently to suspend the six derelict doctors if they fail to report to their place of posting latest by May 15 .
