Imphal, May 23 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam on Monday laid foundation stone for UCM's new office building at Lamphel, here and dedicated the same to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra recalled how UCM emerged following a mega public uprising to protect the territorial integrity of the state after the Government pf India signed a ceasefire agreement 'without territorial limit' with NSCN-IM in Bangkok, and how 18 lives were lost in the uprising.
Since then, UCM has been functioning as an apex organisation of different CSOs in the state with the sole purpose of safeguarding the unity, integrity and territory of the state, he said.
The present condition bf the existing building necessitated construction of a new one, which is why UCM is taking up the work, he said, while adding that they are dedicating the new office building to the martyrs, who laid down their lives in the cause of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Apart from a conference hall and a library, the new office building will also have guesthouse for Manipuris settling in other states and countries, he informed.
He then appealed to the people of the state as well as well-wishers from outside the state to extend assistance to UCM in the construction of the new office building.
