Imphal, May 23 2022:
The legal department of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has lodged a complaint to DGP Manipur urging the state police chief to initiate legal action against chief minister N Biren Singh for making a public speech supporting corruption.
In a complaint lodged to the DGP on Monday, MPCC legal department chairman advocate S Shyam Charan said that a remark of CM Biren Singh made during inauguration ceremony of 10-bedded ICU unit and TeleICU Hub of JNIMS on May 3 went viral on social media and MPCC had already requested authority concerned to initiate legal action against the chief minister for making the remark supportive of corruption openly.
However, state police are yet to initiate any action till date, Shyam mentioned in the complaint.
The viral video had CM Biren Singh openly stating that they had spent crores of rupees in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and even asked one of his cabinet colleagues namely minister L Susindro alias Yaima of Khurai AC how many crores had he spent in the said election, The chief minister also voluntarily admitted and publicly confirmed, in his public statement, that they (BJP MLAs) had spent crores of rupees as expenditure which indeed is totally against the guideline of the limit of election expenditures issued by the Election Commission of India for the recently concluded election.
The CM also justified the need to get back huge money spent in the election and advised his ministers and MLAs to take around 13-15 per cent of the profits earned by private companies which are going to work in the form of contracts and developmental works in their respective assembly constituencies.
In another word, the CM was promoting and justifying corruption as well as accepting the extra expenditure of huge crores of rupees in the elections by the BJP, the complaint said and urged the state DGP to take necessary legal action as per law against CM N Biren Singh for the ends of justice.
