Imphal, May 23 2022:
Stating that there are several developmental projects in Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) area, whose funds have been released, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has asked those responsible for the projects to begin the work within five days, failing which he will declare their names publicly.
Addressing a press meet at his Khoyatnong residence here on Monday, Joykisan said that he spoke with the MAHUD minister in this regard about a month ago.
During the meeting, the minister called the IMC 'mayor' over the phone and asked him to take up necessary actions so as to initiate the projects while cautioning of taking up appropriate action in case of non-compliance.
However, none of the projects have been initiated till date.
The projects include road, drain, playground among others and he has been demanding the government since the last term to complete the projects, the MLA said.
The MLA also said he had also spoken with the chief minister in this regard and the CM asked to submit details in order to take up appropriate actions for misappropriating public fund.
Unless the implementing agencies start the projects within five days, he will publicly share the details, he reiterated.
On the other hand, the recent incessant rainfall and thunderstorm left many families in desperate condition, he said and drew attention of the chief minister and the MAHUD minister for conducting a survey to provide necessary assistance to the affected families.
There are several PMAY beneficiaries, who are still waiting for scheme benefits to complete constructions of their houses.
Each beneficiary is entitled to get Rs 1.5 lakh under the scheme but the government released Rs 60,000 about two years back and no further funds have been released till date.
As a result, many houses are left incomplete and the family members are seeking refuge in others' houses or in rent, which is very unfortunate, Joykisan said while urging the government to release the pending funds at the earliest.
Stating that there are reports of some individuals collecting money from the beneficiaries with the prom ise of releasing the remaining fund, Joykisan asked the beneficiaries not to entertain such approach but to inform him.
