Imphal, May 23 2022: Social and Educational Welfare Organisation (SEWO) Manipur, Unique Youth Development Association (UYDA) Keibung Wangma Mathak and All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) have strongly condemned the suspicious death of Md Abdullah (23) and demanded punishment for the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime.

It may be noted that Md Abdullah, s/o Md Abdul Barik from Yairipok Changdambi Mayai Leikai, had been missing since May 16 when he allegedly left home with three friends as he had been invited for a meal by the elder sister of a woman he had eloped with a year earlier.

His dead body was fished out of Imphal River near Arong Nongmaikhong area on May 22 .

During a press conference jointly organised by UYDA and Keibung Youth Development Club, Keibung Makha Leikai at UYDA's office located at Keibung Wangma Mathak, Wahidur Rahaman Phundreimayum, secretary Unique Youth Development Association, said that the public and local clubs of Keibung will lend their support in apprehending the individuals involved in Md Abdullah's death.

In a statement, SEWO Manipur alleged that Md Abdullah had been held hostage by the woman he had eloped with, her elder sister Sana and Md Mujibur (Sana's husband).

The statement went on to claim that the three had surrendered to Lilong PS and strongly demanded capital punishment for the three alleged perpetrators.

All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) has also urged for N Biren Singh prompt action in this matter and appealed for transparency in the investigation to bring justice to the victim.

In a statement, AMMDC expressed hope that Imphal East SP, Thoubal SP and other relevant investigating officers and forensic experts will perform their duties diligently to reveal the truth in this case.

Separately, many organisations have come together to appeal for the speedy release of three of Abdullah's friends who have been arrested by the police.

This sentiment was shared by Albas Bhai, chairman VCPC, during a press briefing held today at Yairipok Tulihal.

He stated that the three friends who had accompanied Abdullah on May 16 to have lunch had been picked by the police and appealed for their unconditional release if the three are found innocent.

He also urged the relevant authorities to award befitting punishment to those involved in Md Abdullah's death and urged the Chief Minister to look into the matter.

He further vowed to support all future actions of the JAC formed in relation with Abdullah's death.
