Imphal, January 04 2023:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded resignation of education minister Th Basantakumar on moral ground for his inability to resolve the issue of absence of regular principals in government higher secondary schools and colleges for the last many years.
A resolution to this effect was arrived at during the assembly session of DESAM unit of Manipur University, colleges and higher secondary schools for the year 2022-23 and candidates/newly elected office bearers of DESAM held at its Kwakeithel office, here on Wednesday.
The assembly session also adopted a number of resolutions including pressing authority concerned for rationalisation of posting of teachers according to the number of students and subjects in addition to solving the issue of shortage of teachers, failing which the education minister should resign; initiating punitive action against the education commissioner/director and minister as they are responsible for the rejection of implementation of Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) by NCTE even after the state cabinet decided to implement the same in 9 colleges of the state; and to launch agitations in case the matters remain unsolved.
