Student bodies demand appointment of adequate teachers

An assembly session of candidates/newly elected office bearers of students' union of Manipur University 2021-22, colleges, higher secondary school 2022-23 of Manipur was held today.
The assembly session was held under the theme "Remembering the Roots" organised by Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) at its Head Office, said a press release by DESAM.
The session was co-chaired by DESAM president Leishangthem Lamyanba Meitei; vice-president Longjam Robin and secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei and passed many resolutions.
The session resolved to urge the Education Minister and relevant authorities for appointment of vacant teachers and rationalization of teachers as per the number of teachers and subjects in colleges and higher secondary schools in the State.
Further it resolved to demand the appointment of regular principals of higher secondary schools and colleges across the State.
With regards to the rejection of initiation of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) in nine schools of Manipur by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), it was alleged that 'ITEP was rejected due to negligence on the part of the authorities concerned' .
Expressing that it was unfortunate that representatives of State's Commissioner/Secretary were not sent to attend the NCTE Eastern Regional Committee meet, the session decided to urge the State authorities to take up appropriate actions against the officials and Minister concerned of the Education Department.
The session also unanimously decided to make cohesive efforts to strengthen the struggle for students' welfare in the State.
