Kakching, January 04 2023:
Locals residing alongside the road from Hiyanglam Laipanganba to Hiranmei in Kakching district, which was earlier blacktopped under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme, have urged authorities concerned to repair the said road.
Addressing a press meet in this regard, locals stated that Hiyanglam Laipanganba to Hiranmei road was one of the first roads constructed using Geotextiles technology in the state in 2017-18 under PMGSY scheme.
According to signboard for the road, the work was taken up by special class contractor Okram Ibotomba.
The work order mentions that the road construction began from 2017-18 and it will be maintained till May 2023, whereas on some signboards, it is specified that the road will be maintained by the contractor till July 2024, they pointed out.
While stating that a sum of Rs 17 lakh is earmarked for maintenance work of the road, they contended that with exception of blacktopping, no maintenance work has been carried out by the contractor despite blockage of drainage and increasing number of potholes at various portions.
Moreover, the work order mentioned that three culverts will be constructed along the road contrary to which only two have been constructed till now, they claimed.
Considering the deplorable condition of the road, the aggrieved locals urged the contractor, PMGSY Thoubal EE & AE, local MLA and minister concerned to repair the road in the current working season.
