Imphal, May 13 2021:
The second wave of Covid-19 pandemic has been brutal for the state.
While it is important for people to strictly follow the SOPs, it is equally important for the government to ensure there is no missing link in the ongoing fight to take control the pandemic, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary Dr Soraisam Manaoton.
Speaking on the sidelines of distribution of relief items to Muslim community of Hiyangthang Tarahei and Pallak in Naoriaya Pakhanglakpa AC on the occasion of Eid-ul-fitr on Thursday, Dr Manaoton noted that if people were to stringently follow the Covid guidelines for some time, it would be possible to curb further spread of the virus.
However, failure to abide by the protocols due to self-interests and zero consideration of others could turn the situation from bad to worse.
"Despite its harshness, the pandemic had taught us many lessons for the future", he remarked.
Stating that Manipur features amongst the Covid-affected areas due to non-adherence of the guidelines and indiscipline, which could be worrisome in the future; Dr Manaoton recounted that in the first wave, anyone in contact with a positive case was immediately tested.
However, in the second wave, the contacts often have to wait for long period of time to get tested, thereby resulting in the spread of the virus.
On top of this, the delay of ambulance pick-ups and compelling the infected patients to go to the Covid Care Centres by themselves have led people to become increasingly upset with the government, he added.
The MPCC secretary then cautioned that the escalating frustration and anger among the people could one day explode into a big ball of fire, which will not serve anyone any good.
As such, the government should try its level best to cover all bases to prevent the occurrence of any such situation, he remarked.
