Mid-day meal workers continue protest

Imphal, July 11 2021:
Demanding regularisation of service of Mid-day meal workers along with hiking monthly salary and other benefits, protests were staged in different parts of the state on Sunday.
In support of the nationwide protest called by Midday Meal Workers' Federation of India on Sunday, Mid-day Meal Workers' Union in the state staged protests at different school campuses along with conduct of meetings in other areas.
The core demands of the mid-day meal workers include payment of Rs 24,000 per month as salary, pension and other benefits; service regularisation of all workers; non-privatisation of children-related schemes; inclusion of migrant workers and children in all schemes; pay- ment of Rs 7500 per month along with 10 kg of rice per head during the pandemic; vaccination of mid-day meal workers on priority basis, and revocation of the four anti-labour code laws.
During the protests, midday meal workers raised slogans demanding the government to fulfill the said demands at the earliest.
With regard to Sunday's protest, All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers' Union president S Mainou appreciated all those who extended support to the protest, while appealing to the government to fulfill the above demands.
On the other hand, Union vice president Maibam Jamuna strongly condemned the excessive force used by the Manipur police to break up the protest in several places.
She also appealed to the government to understand the plight of the workers and to extend all necessary support.
