CM seeks public support to battle Covid-19
Emphasises role of Sumang Kumhei in shaping public opinion

Chief minister N Biren Singh said that Shumang Kumhei plays an important role towards shaping public opinion and acts as a tool for creating mass awareness campaigns at the grassroots.
Attending the premier show of 'Keidoubagi Kidoino', a COVID-19 awareness media advocacy campaign held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in Palace Compound on Sunday, CM Biren said that government believes such plays would sensitize the masses about COVID-19 disease and the importance of vaccination.
Considering the current situation of COVID-19, the government has taken up various stringent measures to contain the disease, he said while iterating that free meals are being provided to all the patients who are undergoing treatment at Covid Care Centres and hospitals as a part of the containment measures.
Apart from house-to-house COVID-19 testing, mass vaccination drives are also underway in various parts of the state, he said and appealed to the people to support the government in the fight against COVID-19.He also lauded DIPR and those associated with the play for producing the play within a short period.
The play is produced by directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) under the initiative of CM Biren.
The Shumang Kumhei was streamed live on DIPR Facebook page and DIPR Youtube channel.
It was also telecast by ISTV, Impact TV and TOM TV channels.
Minister for Information & Public Relations Th Biswajit Singh, who also attended the premier show of the courtyard play, noted that the pandemic has adversely affected every society socially and economically.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government is trying its best to protect and save precious lives, he said and highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has started world's largest free COVID vaccination drive for its citizens.
Stating that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective for preventing the dreaded disease, Biswajit said one should not be reluctant to take the jab as vaccines are being developed through a rigorous process and clinical trials and later approved by competent authorities for public use.
The minister mentioned that government alone cannot fight the pandemic without the support and cooperation of the people.
Education minister S Rajen Singh, agriculture minister O Lukhoi Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, LDA chairman L Susindro Meitei, IPR commissioner M Joy Singh, IPR director H Balkrisna, former minister M Nara, Padmashri awardee Naba Wareppa and others also witnessed the premier show.
