Imphal, July 11 2021:
The 17th death anniversary of Thangjam Manorama, who was brutally tortured and killed by Assam Rifles, was jointly organised by Working Committee of Apunba Lup and Thangjam Manorama Devi Charitable Trust at Bamon Kampu, Imphal East on Sunday.
Lup coordinator Phulindro Konsam, who attended the observance function, said that it along with the people of the state has been demanding removal of AFSPA from the state but the government is still ignoring the matter till date.
Terming AFSPA as a draconian British legacy law, which gives arbitrary power to the armed forces, he alleged that security forces have killed, raped and tortured thousands of innocent lives with impunity under AFSPA.
The Act is violating the basic human rights of the people of the state, he said and demanded the government to repeal the Act and bring those involved in the murder of Thangjam Manorama to justice.
Family members and those present during the function paid floral tributes to the photo of Thangjam Manorama.
