Imphal, July 11 2021:
Government Polytechnic Teachers' Association (GOPOTA) has cautioned of halting all academic related activities if the government fails to implement the 7th revision of pay recommended by All India Council for Technical Education for government polytechnic teachers by July 20.Issuing a statement in this regard, the Association said that although the 7th pay revision has been implemented for state government employees including the college teachers, government polytechnic teachers have been kept out of its ambit.
Thus, the government must issue an order in this regard by July 20 failing which all academic related works including conduct of online classes, evaluation of examination papers and others will be put on halt from the next day onwards.
The same has already been intimated in a memorandum to the Education Minister, it added.
"All necessary documents for implementation of the 7th pay had been submitted to the state government in July 2019.However, the government has been apathetic to the polytechnic teachers due to their low numbers.
The teachers, on the other hand, had been patient and enduring the indifferent attitude in the interest of the students.
But the prolonged negligence has now led to a breaking point", the Association said, while appealing to the students and student bodies not to mind of its stance and further laid the blame squarely on the government.
Recalling that the education minister had approved the 7th pay issue during his visit to Polytechnic, GOPOTA further recalled that the Controller of Technical Education and Polytechnic principal had assured the implementation, based on which the teachers had stayed silent.
The Association had also reminded the education minister two times regarding the 7th pay Revision, it added.
