Ukhrul, July 11 2021:
Frontier Government High School in New Tusom village is in a pitiful condition with no signs of development by the concerned departments since a very long time.
Chinaorar Horam, convenor, School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) told this correspondent and added that the school, which was established in 1967, has no headmaster, no proper infrastructure and not enough staff, both teaching and non teaching.
He added that recently the headmistress of the school, K Adaho, was transferred to Kasom Khullen in June and it has reduced the strength of the faculty to just three teachers.
There is also no grade IV and clerical staff to assist the teachers while the number of teachers are in surplus in Imphal, he added.
The lack of clerical and Grade TV staff will also cause more problems when the pandemic situation normalises and the students who have cleared HSLC examination need their documents for further studies, he added.
As the three teachers cannot cater to the need of the 193 students admitted to the school, the Village Authority of New Tusom hires 6 teachers to fill the gap, the convenor added.
Frontier Government High School was upgraded to a high school in 1996 and even after 25 years, the school is yet to see any infrastructural development.
The school currently has two wooden buildings with 8 rooms which are used to accommodate all the students from Class I-X including the staff.
Chinaorar Horam lamented the poor condition of the school and questioned if the 'Go to Hills' campaign of the Chief Minister does not include New Tusom village, the last northern village under Jessami block which is about 140 kms from Ukhrul town.
He also alleged that the local MLA Khashim Vashum, who is a native of Tusom, has overlooked the condition of the school despite the problems of the school being brought to his attention on many occasions by Village Authority.
For the students of Frontier Government High School, waiting in line for their teachers to teach them has become a routine and continues to wait for proper school building and staff, he told this correspondent.
