Imphal, July 11 2021:
Noting that Board and Council of the state are considering results of previous three exams (2018, 2019 and 2020) as the basis for determining performance of students who were scheduled to appear in the class X and XII examination, All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association has said that the declaration of base year for all schools will be disadvantageous to certain schools which had low pass percentage and students who scored low marks.
In a release, AMRPSWA secretary W Surjit maintained that fixing of base year for examination result is based on some of the regulations which will be followed for CBSE students who are going to appear public examination, 2021.Considering the last three years' examination results taken by board and council as base years to declare the pass percentage of schools and evaluate the marks of the students will not be good for schools and the marks could not be considered as true, he contended.
Surjit observed that students from ordinary schools will get less than half of the marks scored by students of more reputed schools if the base year is fixed on the last three examination result.
The Association submitted a memorandum to the board and the council on July 5 and 7 respectively demanding to relax the base year or to add a clause for the welfare of students, he conveyed.
He opined that making average range as plus-minus 8 or 10 will be better for students to save the career of common students as well.
Discussing the complaints of underdeveloped schools which will face difficulties due to lock of base year by the board and the council will be the easiest way to settle the issue, Surjit suggested.
Acknowledging that all the needs and desires of students and parents could not be fulfilled because of the pandemic, Surjit urged parents and students to calmly discuss with the board and the council if students wanted to take re-exam due to grievances in the marks or the division, he/she scored or if the student wanted to claim his/her right.
Meanwhile, the association lauded the education minister for cancelling Class X and XII examinations and for advising authorities concerned to give marks liberally to students so as to save their careers.
