Gadkari to inaugurate Makru bridge today

All arrangements have been made for the inauguration of Makru Bridge by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday at 2 pm.
The Makru bridge is a 122-metres long RCC steel superstructure built at a cost of about Rs 45 crore with funding from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
The bridge has a 3.35-metre-wide footpath on both sides.
The construction work was started in April, 2017 and was targeted for completion by April, 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdown delayed the work.
The bridge has been constructed under the MoRTH by M/S Bhartia Infra Project Limited (BIPL) under the supervision of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and M/S Indian Technocrat Limited (ITC) as authority engineer.

The bridge is located 189 km away from Imphal city and 31km from Jiribam.
It is situated under Tousem Sub-Division in Tamenglong district along the NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road).
The RCC Arch bridge is constructed over the river of Makru in between Kaiphundai and Longkao villages.
The inauguration event is expected to be attended by Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways General (Retd) Dr VK Singh, DoNER minister G Kishan Reddy, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other dignitaries.
Minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change Awangbow Newmai on Sunday assessed the preparations being made for inauguration of the bridge.
The bridge, constructed over the Makru river, connects the states of Assam and Manipur through the Imphal-Jiribam section of National Highways No 53 (New NH-37) which passes through parts of Kangpokpi, Noney, Tamenglong & Jiribam districts and urban areas of Imphal West.
The Highway, considered as the second lifeline of Manipur, sees over 500 numbers of goods carriers passing through the bridge daily.
The project is combined with the construction of both Barak and Makru bridges with total cost of Rs 109 Crore.
The 15.7 metre wide bridge has Crash Barriers on both sides.
