Woman claims husband's innocence

A woman whose husband has been arrested by police on the charge of being a cadre ofURF (Lalheiba) has denied the allegation and clarified that her husband was forced by some unknown armed persons to drop them at an undisclosed location fully taken away by some unknown armed persons a day before he was arrested.
The woman, identified as Nunglepam Sophia told reporters at Manipur Press Club that her husband Nunglepam Joy (31) is an innocent person and he operates auto rickshaw service from Kadangband to Uripok.
It may be mentioned that Imphal West district police had claimed to have arrested Joy, a resident of Koutruk Khunou, and two others with a huge cache of arms and ammunition in a search operation conducted at Koutruk village yesterday.
Nunglepam Sophia said that on December 7, her husband returned home at around 5 pm from Sekmai after attending a Shradha ceremony.
After some time, some unknown armed persons came in their house and forcefully took away Joy at gun point to drop them somewhere, Sophia said.
She added that her husband however returned home safely after some hours and went to sleep.
The next morning, a police team came in their locality and arrested her husband with two others on the charge of being the cadres of URF (Lalheiba), she added.
Sophia further said that surprisingly it came out in today's newspapers that her husband is a member of URF (Lalheiba) and he was involved in the transportation of arms and ammunition.
Denying the charges, Sophia said that her husband is an innocent person and he does not have any connection with underground groups.
Joy operates auto rickshaw service from Kadangband to Uripok and he is the sole bread earner of their family, she added.
Pleading the police to release her husband, Sophia also requested the armed persons not to force anybody to do anything unlawful.
