Dimapur, December 09 2014:
Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the Indo-Naga political negotiation which has been going on for the past 17 years.
The NSF in its representation to the Prime Minister has also reminded the various agendas which were placed before him during the NSF delegation maiden visit to Gujarat on October 22, 2013 .
The NSF representation jointly signed by its president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho said, "As you are well aware sir, the Indo-Naga political negotiation has entered into 17 long years.
That sir, the enthusiasm shown by the government of India during the initial stage of the peace process was overwhelmingly acknowledged by both the Nagas and the Indians thinking that it will usher in a new ray of hope for both Indian and Nagas." It further said there s very less progress in these seventeen years of collective search for honourable solution of the Naga political issue.
"Therefore sir, under your leadership as the Prime Minister of India, the Nagas have high hopes and expectations that your government will bring an amicable solution to the Indo-Naga peace process which will be acceptable to the entire Nagas," it added.
The NSF memorandum which was submitted to the Prime Minister on November 30 also urged the latter to upgrade the Dimapur Airport.
"Compared to other 125 airports in the entire country, Dimapur Airport is the most neglected Airport in terms of infrastructure, maintenance and development and since its establishment, Dimapur Air Transport with just a single flight, plying four days in a week has not been able to serve the purpose for the people" .
It alleged that for the past many years, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India has totally sidelined the infrastructural development and necessary maintenance of the lone airport in Nagaland.
"As development of airport infrastructure has become the major thrust area nowadays, we urge upon the Government of India under your able leadership to give prior importance on development, modernization and up-gradation of Dimapur Airport," the NSF representation said.
The NSF memorandum then rued that even after 51 years of statehood there is no established medical or engineering college in Nagaland.
"Therefore, the NSF on behalf of the entire Naga students' community places this earnest appeal to your esteemed self and authority to establish an engineering college in Nagaland of national standard so as to benefit the students of north eastern states," it added.
The Naga Students Federation then expressed its hope that under the leadership Narendra Modi the aforementioned agendas will be "sincerely' addressed.
