CAU hands over awards, 1173 degree certificates

Central Agriculture University (CAU), Manipur held its 3rd convocation ceremony at campus here at Iroisemba today.
The convocation ceremony was presided by CAU Chancellor Padma Bhusan Dr Ram Badan Singh as chief guest.
Vice-Chancellor Dr SN Puri along with the University Registrar and other invitees from outside the State graced the ceremony as guests of honour.
The University handed over degrees to 1173 graduates and post-graduate students during the 3rd Convocation ceremony.
CAU also awarded gold medals to toppers from various streams during the convocation.
The Akoijam Nimai Singh Memorial Award and Akoijam Udhop Singh Memorial Award, 2014 was handed over to meritorious students of the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr SN Puri said CAU's contribution in the field of agriculture has benefited not only Manipur but Northeast India as a whole.
The university has introduced four different varieties of paddy and accomplished various training programmes on plants and animal husbandry during its 10 years of existence.
Dr SN Puri while expressing pleasure on being able to contribute to the State's economy also lauded State Government for its contribution to the university.
Padma Bhusan Dr RB Singh, during his speech said is a matter of pride that the State houses the only Central Agriculture University of North East India.
Agricultural colleges in North East India like Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura, Aru-nachal Pradesh and Mizoram are affiliated to the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Manipur.
The University was given the Academic Excellence Award of ICAR as one of its students bagged second position in 2013-14 ICAR Junior Fellowship Examination.
The University aims to carry out new researches on how to improve farming and animal husbandary in the years to come.
