Gifts presented to senior citizens in "Ningol Khudol"

Imphal, December 09 2014:
As a routine event organized by the Development Committee Bijoygovinda Gram Panchayat, Ward No-4, the "Ningol Khudol" which is a gift-distribution programme held annually for old-aged persons above the age of 70 years was held at Ideal Club Library Complex in Tera Keithel today.
In the function, President of the Association Gurumayum Joy Sharma attended as the President and Johnson Elangbam, Convenor of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur as the Chief Guest, while Convenor of Committee of Human Rights, Phunindro Konsam graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
In his keynote address, the General Secretary of the Association observed that different types of psychological insecurities are developed in people at the later part of their life span, particularly above the age of 70 years.
He said that while they are physically unable to actively take part in the affairs of their family at these declining years, a type of 'emotional restlessness' phenomena developed in them as a result of different factors like relational, economical and conditional crisis in the family.
He also observed that the program is being organized with the hope to provide a temporary relief to them who had given all their efforts for the welfare and well being of their children and the future generation.
Further, the Chief Guest of the function cited that the senior citizens in our society should be looked after by the younger generation with loving care and respect, while observing the fact that the increase in the number of old-aged homes in our society nowadays, is due to the fact that ill treatment and other forms of harassment has been inflicted upon our old folks.
As many as 39 old men and women were gifted with special presents donated by its members and other donors for the cause of the senior citizens of the state.
