Imphal, February 15 2022:
While stating that the death of oil tanker driver Keisham Prabin and handyman Samaram Nipen of Brahmapur, Cachar in Mizoram is suspicious, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has said that it will not take the matter lightly.
In a release, UCM IPR secretary Leishemba Lamaba recalled that Prabin was found dead at Buichali in Sairang district of Mizoram on January 31.Mizoram police then arrested his brother-in-law Nipen, who had gone with him, on the charge of killing Prabin.
Nipen was tortured in police custody and later informed that he hanged himself, Leishemba Lamaba said, while adding that the death of the two was very suspicious.
Denouncing Mizoram government for remaining silent on the matter, Lamaba said that such inaction of the government has created a situation of detestation among various ethnic communities in North East.
People of North East states are living in communal harmony.
So, it would be wrong to indulge in discriminatory acts, Leishemba maintained.
While lamenting over the death of Prabin and Nipen, he urged the government of Manipur to help in finding the truth about their deaths.
In another release, Leadership Council of Thang-ta Manipur (LCTT), Manipur said that the controversial death of the two Manipuris cannot be swept under the carpet.
While urging union home minister to look into the matter, LCTT also demanded handing over the case to CBI for finding out the truth.
