Must survive Covid pandemic: Dr Lenin

The impact of Coronavirus is so severe that every human being throughout the globe is in a delicate situation of life and death while many are living in a state of perpetual fear and anxiety.
Every human being should consider themselves as a warrior and fight this fear and anxiety without any hesitation in their mind and soul, observed RIMS psychiatry department head Dr RK Lenin.
When asked how to overcome stress experienced by people when their close friends or relatives succumb to the virus, Dr Lenin told The People's Chronicle that the severity of the second wave of Coronavirus is something which had never been witnessed anywhere in the globe.
No pandemic in the past had given such severe impact to humanity than the current one and it is necessary to survive from the current pandemic.
For this, everyone needs to shoulder their responsibility as a warrior and fight the pandemic, Dr Lenin said, adding that there is weapon to fight fear and anxiety being created to human beings when their near and dear ones succumbed to the virus.
Both the mind and body need to remain strong during the pandemic or else Coronavirus will take advantage and sneak into the body.
Apart from this, stress and anxiety will give derail the system of hope and hence everyone must have positive thought most of the time, observed Dr Lenin.
There is also the need to keep the immune system strong all the time, he said, while adding that counselling in this regard with head of families is also necessary.
Sleeplessness is one common stress faced by human beings in the current pandemic and there might be more severe stress than this, Dr Lenin observed and suggested avoiding afternoon nap and mobile phone till late night to sleep in time.
It is also necessary to do household activities daily as this will help one to concentrate on the work and divert mind from developing negative thinking.
To keep the body healthy and sound, it is good to do home based exercises like Yoga and squatting daily, he said, adding that restlessness and anxiety will only abet heart diseases, diabetes and obesity which will help Coronavirus to find its way into the body easily.
There is no need for having over anxiety and more attention should be given to positive living and survival, Dr Lenin said and appealed to people to absorb more positive news than report of deaths.
He further appealed to people to go for Covid testing immediately if they suspected of having any symptom instead of concealing as this will help in timely treatment at hospital.
While urging people to follow Covid SOPs even at homes and while chatting with close friends and relatives, Dr Lenin suggested giving more attention to household works to avoid listening to bad news related with the pandemic.
He further suggested avoiding all forms of drugs and intoxicants to fight the impact of Coronavirus.
