Kakching district candidates to prioritise irrigation, education

Imphal, March 02 2022: Candidates in different assembly constituencies of Kakching district are fighting the 12th state assembly elections on various issues of which, irrigation, education, road connectivity and health sector are common among most.

Below is a brief presentation of the responses given by the candidates to a set of questionnaires served to them from The People's Chronicle.

Sugnu Assembly Constituency
Independent candidate Kakyenpaibam Muktasa-na said he is contesting the election to bring a change in the society.

Improving irrigation facility, road infrastructure, schools, playground, healthcare sector and job creation are his main target for his constituency and he wants to declare Manipur as a hill state and ensure self-reliance.

BJP candidate Mayanglambam Binod said he is in the fray to contribute his mite in bringing development in the society.

Stating that the target for the constituency is to improve irrigation facility, education, sports and road connectivity, he pledged to address the issue of deforestation as well as improve tourism sector, drug menace and take up welfare programmes for artistes and elderly citizens.

According to NPP candidate Maibam Dhanabir, decision to join electoral politics is to bring development in road connectivity, improve economy and healthcare sector.

Stating that main agenda for his constituency is to restore the natural ecosystem of Khoidum and Pumlen lakes, he also vowed to give priority in resolving border issue, AFSPA and other major issues of the state.

BJP candidate Yumnam Radheshyam said that he wants to continue his service to the public by becpming a lawmaker and for his constituency, he is planning to bring further improvement in education, health, road infrastructure, economy to raise the standard of living and also to restore Khoidum and Pumlen lakes.

He wants to bring peace and development in the state.

For RPI-A candidate Nongmaithem Sanjay, bringing changes in the political scenario through empowerment of youth is the main factor for contesting the poll.

His focus for the constituency would be improving basic infrastructure in healthcare, education and socio-economy sector and transform Hiyanglam into the most ideal constituency.

He also wants to work on border issue, effective utilisation of natural resources, proper implementation of ILPS, fight against drugs, improving sports infrastructure and maintain natural ecosystem.

INC candidate M Ranjit refused to comment when contacted while JD-U candidate Elangbam Dwijamani could not be reached.

Wabagai assembly constituency
BJP candidate Dr Usham peven said that he is contesting the election to take key role in bringing transformation in Wabagai and for his constituency, he would be focusing on road connectivity, safe drinking water, economy and MSME sector to create job opportunities.

He wants to make Manipur a self-reliant state and usher in peace and development.

NPP candidate Mayengbam Ranjit also said that he is contesting the election to bring development in the constituency and he would be focusing on improving irrigation, education and health sectors among others in the constituency.

For the state, he wants to root out corruption and work towards bringing a new Manipur.

Independent candidate Sakir Ahmad said he is contesting the election to bridge the gap between elected representatives and the public by setting himself as an example.

He would be focusing on education, sports and health in his constituency and also conveyed that he wants to root out corruption and work towards framing special policies for employment and withdrawal of AFSPA from the state.

INC candidate Md Fajur Rahim and JD-U candidate Md Sikander could not be contacted.

Kakching assembly constituency
NCP candidate Yengkhom Nilachandra is contesting the election to become a lawmaker to serve the public better.

Apart from improving condition of roads, his focus for his constituency is developing Kakching into a marketing centre and to provide safe drinking water.

He wants to resolve AFSPA, border issue, make Manipur a self-reliant state in terms of food and make policies for education and integrity.

CPI candidate Yengkhom Roma is contesting to serve the public, especially the un-organised workers and farmers.

Farmers' welfare is her top priority in both her constituency and the state and her vision for the state is to address unemployment issues and bring development.

BJP candidate Yengkhom Surchandra is contesting the election to continue his service to the public.

His focus areas in his constituency would be market infrastructure, water supply, expansion of Kakching Municipal area and construction of Kakching district hospital along with setting up a medical college.

His priority for the state would be improving economy, special policy to address unemployment and resolve other key issues of the state as well as to take up farmers' welfare programmes.

INC candidate Kshetrimayum Kennedy said that he is contesting the election after resigning from his profession as a college teacher to bring development in water, power, road connectivity and education sectors and these would be his focus areas in the constituency.

For the state, his top priorities would be communal harmony, effective implementation of ILPS, AFSPA withdrawal and addressing youth related issues.

JD-U candidate Naorem Nabachandra said that he is contesting the election to alleviate poverty by framing special policies after becoming a lawmaker and his focus in his constituency would be creation of employment opportunities through MSME and his priority for the state is bringing industrial revolution to improve economy and make Manipur a self-reliant state.
