Imphal, June 25 2015 :
People in the interior village of Hungpung in Ukhrul district have expressed on Thursday unhappiness over a bad road stretch that leads to Ukhrul market.
While talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, A S Robert, an activist, appealed to the State Government to improve the 6 km-long road at the earliest.
He said with the onset of monsoon the road stretch has become inaccessible.
The villagers of Hungpung have been using only bumpy roads for all their life, he said.
The Government has never paid heed to the demands of the villagers to develop the road, Robert said.
He said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) back in January 2013 started improvement and blacktopping of the road stretch from Ukhrul Fish Corner to Hungpung measuring 22 km.
The Government has denied compensation to the villagers for the road expansion work till now, he said.
A target was set to finish the road development work by 2014, which has failed so far to keep it, he added.
He further added that windows of the present building of Ukhrul District Hospital do not have grills and drew the attention of the Government in this regard for prompt action.
He also regretted that the Manipur Government's promise to set up a nursing school near the district hospital is yet to materialize.
