Imphal, June 25 2015 :
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) endorse the ongoing agitation taken by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) .
In a press statement issued by TKS President Joel Angkhang said that the students bodies will not merely be a spectator when rights of the tribals of the state are toyed with by the valley based communal government led by Okram Ibobi.
Joel alleged that the current government is least of all, bothered with the progress and development of the hill people.
Constantly conspiring and even at times succeeding in creating a dysfunctional atmosphere of governance in the hill areas, this current government has always worked to deprive the rights of the hill people to fill up their own pockets and satisfy their chauvinistic and sadistic ego.
The current agitation spearheaded by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur has the full support by TKS, being an agitation that seeks to rectify serious anomalies that were meted out by the corrupt government of Manipur.
Although it is high time that the dysfunctional state government start working for progress the hill people, their severe lackadaisical attitude have left the student body with no other option but to begin agitating to highlight the grievances.
Since the current state government has never reacted to democratic forms of protests thus far in its entire tenure of governance, the tribal students are compelled to take up such stringent forms of agitation.
Further, the Saklong would like to reaffirm sternly that land records of the tribals belong to the tribals and that tribal land records cannot and should never be included in the valley.
This current trend displays the state government's insecure colonial mindset.
He asked what right do the non-tribals have on tribal land records? Tribal land records belong to the tribals and should be maintained so, the statement added.
