Accused murderer in police custody

A person accused in the murder of a 40 year old woman of Ramrei village is now under police custody, Ramrei villagers told media persons during a visit to the village today.
KA Shanti (40) w/o late Hormi, who remained missing since June 22 morning around 10 am, was found murdered inside a jungle some 300 metres from her house at Ramrei village (Lamlai Khullen) under Litan police station in Ukhrul district.
She lived all by herself with her three children after her husband died in 2005 in a small house in the border area of Ramrei village.
From the day she failed to return home, family members and villagers have been looking for her.
When her body was found in a gorge inside a jungle, she bore injury marks on her face, hands and her throat was found slit.
After she left the house on June 22 leaving her phone with her children who were home, a text sms came from a number saved as 'Pukang' asking "where are you".
The person who sent the SMS has been identified as Jugeshwor of Leimakhong Mapal and is now in police custody.
It is reported that a team of Litan police personnel led by OC Manikanta picked up Jugeshwor last night from his residence.
Villagers commented that the police came without any forensic expert and executive magistrate three hours after the incident was reported and charged that inquest procedure was incomplete.
One of the villagers said that such kind of procedure will lead to destruction of vital evidence which could lead to the arrest of the culprit.
It is learnt that Jugeshwor is a worker at a construction site near Shanti's house in the village itself.
The woman is survived by her three children KA Machanphi (14), KA Ramphungni (13) and the youngest one KA Shangnaya (11) .
Speaking to media persons village secretary MK Vicson stated that JAC against the brutal killing of KA Shanti has been formed and the JAC condemned such incident in such a peaceful village which has never experienced such a barbaric act.
Secretary of the JAC Kamson Jajo said that the JAC will not claim the dead body unless the killer/s is/are booked under the law and befitting punishment awarded.
A team led by United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNM a conglomerate of various NGOs of the State) visited the village to take stock of the prevailing situation in the village after the incident.
Speaking to media persons one of the members commented that the UNM will provide all the support to book the culprits and start a tribunal case.
