Awangbow exhorts Liangmai students to focus on studies

The Liangmai Katinah Ruangdi (LKRD) on Friday felicitated Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai, at the Community Centre, PTS Malviya in New Delhi.
Speaking at the event, the min ister appreciated the LKRD team and presented the Delhi Liangmai students' body a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh.
He encouraged and motivated the youths stressing that they are equal and not less than anyone else.
He dwelled at length on the history of the Nagas, the sufferings endured by the forefathers and his personal journey of overcoming the odds.
He urged them to focus and work hard on their studies, and to excel in whatever they do whether working in the private or central service sectors.
On the occasion, Awangbow New mai also launched a sponsorship programme for students under the theme "Late Namrang's Merit Scholarship", which is created with an aim to provide academic opportunities for aspiring candidates in SSC and banking examinations for a period of five years.
On March 21 last year, Awangbow Newmai was sworn in as minister of Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management in the N Biren Singh led government of Manipur.
He was former minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
Awangbow was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Tamei AC in 2007 as an independent candidate and as Naga People's Front candidate in 2017 and 2022.LKRD president Namthonlungbo Newmai in his address thanked the dignitaries and also congratulated minister Awangbow for being the first from Liangmai tribe to get a consecutive second cabinet berth.
Namthonlungbo also thanked Hibu Tamang, IPS, joint commissioner of police & nodal officer for Northeast Region, for lending support 24x7 with the special police unit to the northeast people in the city.
The programme began with a prayer followed by a blessing hour conducted by Dr Kaikho Wijunamai, Pastor Liangmai Christian Fellowship Delhi (LCFD).
Hecy Marinmai, an elder and a former employee of Prasar Bharati, exhorted the LKRD while Major Moses Charenamai (retd), chairman of the apex body, Liangmai Ruangdi Delhi, gave a career guidance to the youths.
Later in the evening, a musical evening was held with performances from popular artistes including Albert N Hau (winner of Naga Orpheus haunt 2014), Blessing Nchangtah, Jubal Pamai, Michael T Manlun, Maithonliu Marenmai and Faithline band.
The LKRD, established in, 2011 is actively involved in community works, interacting and cooperating with peers and elders, helping students with their college admission procedures, and organising literary meet among others.
