Education system in Kamjong fares poorly : K Leishiyo

A discussion programme was held on Friday at Kamjong Higher Secondary School to improve the education system in Kamjong district in the presence of Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo.
The programme was organised by ZEO Kamjong under the supervision of Samagra Shiksha State Implementing Society.
ZEO Kamjong L Nabakumar, SDO Kamjong T Lhungdim, Principal of Kamjong Higher Secondary School Phelim Keishing, former Vice Chairman of Ukhrul ADC MI Issac also attended the programme among others.
As a part of the programme, a district level training cum workshop on community mobilisation was also held.
Reporterly, there are as many as 165 schools in Kamjong district.
It is further reported that there is a shortage of teachers at schools which operate under Tribal Welfare Department while schools such as Bohoram Primary School, Bungdung Primary School, Bungpen Primary School, Chituwa Primary School, Heijang Primary School, Hongdei-Kamson Primary School, Hoyang Kachui Primary School, K Langli Upper Primary School, Khoikai Primary School, Khoiripok Lower Primary School, Lairam Khullen Primary School, Lamlai Primary School, Langkhe Primary School, Maku Shongpak Primary School, Manthouram Primary School, Meiti Primary School, Nambashi Valley Primary School, Ningthi Junior High School, Phaimol Primary School, Phungnemtang Primary School, Punomham Primary School, Reisangphung Primary School, Roni Primary School, Sampui Primary School, Shangpunram Primary School, Shikatho Primary School, Shokritang Primary School, Sibuntang Primary School, Sikibung Leingangching Primary School, Sotun Primary School, T Natyeng Primary School, Tamaching Primary School, Yentem Primary School and Z Choro Primary School don't have any teacher.
As per the report, Sahampung Upper Primary School, Chadong Upper Primary School, Khoiripok Upper Primary School, Makan Tangkhul Upper Primary School, Ngayophung Primary School, Wanglee Primary School, Lairam Phungka Primary School and Itham Primary School which are also under ZEO, Kamjong have a teacher or two while Punomham Primary School, Manthouram Primary School, Hoyang Kachui Primary School, Maku Shongpak Primary School, Bungdung Primary School, Bungpen Primary School, Shangpunram Primary School and Khoiripok Lower Primary School are new postless primary schools which comes under the ZEO, Kamjong.
There are three higher secondary schools under ZEO, Kamjong - Kamjong Higher Secondary School, Phungyar Higher Secondary School and Kasom Khullen Higher Secondary School.
Among the three higher secondary schools, Kamjong Higher Secondary School has 11 staff while Phungyar Higher Secondary School and Kasom Khullen Higher Secondary School have 14 and 12 respectively.
The district also has 17 high schools of which Kangpat High School has one AGT and a PT while Chamu Government High School has two SGTs, two PTs, one MT.
Details of other schools are Mongkot High School (1 AGT, 1 MT, 1 PT), Chatric High School (1 SGT-HM, 1 PT, 1 AGT, 1 Matron), Maku High School ( 1 AGT, 1 Asst HM, 1 MT, 1 PT), Sorde High School (3 PTs), Sorbung High School (3 AGTs, 1 SGT), Shingkap High School (1 SGT, 1 AGT, 2 MTs, 2PTs), Lungphu High School (1 AGT, 1 SGT, 1 PT), T Hundung High School (2 AGTs, 1 SGT, 1 PT) Chandong High School (1 Grade-IV, 1 AGT, 3 PTs), Thawai High School (3 AGTs, 1 MT, 3 PTs), Kashung High School (2 AGTs, 1 SGT, 2 MTs and 3 PTs), Mawai High School (3 AGTs, 1 Asst HM, 1 MT), Mapithel Area High School (2 AGTs, 1 SGT, 1 Asst HM, 1 PT, 3 UPTs), Nambasi High School (3 AGTs, 5Pts) .
Of the 509 sanctioned posts for ZEO Kamjong, only 121 are working employees while 112 others are utilised out employees.
Alogother 266 posts are vacant as per the report.
At the programme, K Leishiyo said that Kamjong is performing very poorly as compared to other districts in the education sector.
He then urged the State Government to return the employees who have been sent for utilisation at other places to their original place of posting.
He also urged the State Government to consider running the schools in Kamjong on PPP model with the fund allocated for the education sector in the district.
