Mass campaign against drugs launched

A mass campaign against drugs and alcohol under the banner 'Mayai Kaba Nisha Gi Maiyokta Changsinba Khongjang', which is jointly being organised by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMWOVA), was launched from MMRC Unity Park, Khangabok on Saturday.
The inaugural function of the campaign was attended by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Longjam Memnoubi, AMUCO vice-president Takhellambam Gandhi, AMWOVA president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani, Khunai Kanba Meira Paibi Apunba Lup president W Maipak Leima, All Thoubal District United Clubs' Organisation president Rajen Leishangthem, MSF president Khangembam Bidyasagar and social worker Kh Menjor Mangang as presidium members.
Speaking in connection with the campaign, L Memchoubi informed that the mass campaign has been launched to save the state from a possible perilous future as more and more youths of the state are today falling into the clutches of intoxicants.
She recounted how many lives were wasted in past due to excesses of the security forces and now widespread usage of drugs and alcohol is harming the present society with many businessmen, politicians and government officials involved in the illegal drug trade.
Memchoubi also said that people should support the government's 'War on Drugs' campaign which was initiated after it realised the menacing impact of drugs on the people and the state.
During the programme which was also attended by members of clubs, organisations, meira paibi groups and students, RIMS Psychiatric Department professor Dr RK Lenin spoke as resource person.
