Thoubal, September 13 2021:
A woman who reportedly questioned incumbent Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam about improvement of road in her locality during an election related meet has allegedly been badly beaten by some women suspected to be the MLA's workers and even locked up at Nongpok Sekmai police station for one night.
The woman, who claimed to have been thrashed by women workers of MLA Radheshyam, has been identified as Laikhuram Ongbi Mala Leima wife of L Pabungcha Meitei of Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai.
The incident occurred on September 11 afternoon at the residence of one Laikhuram Keinahal of Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai where an election-related meeting was held.
Mala informed media persons at Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai on Monday that a meeting was held on September 11 at her neighbour's house and MLA Radheshyam was also present.
During the meeting, she reportedly apprised the MLA about bad condition of local road which the MLA repeatedly promised to develop and demanded to know when road development work will begin as election is round the corner, Mala said adding that the MLA left the meeting venue without giving any reply.
After the MLA's departure, some women workers of the MLA whisked her out of the meeting venue and started beating her after which she was arrested by police and sent to lock up of Nongpok Sekmai police for one night.
While stating that she is still in shock after the incident, Mala sought reason behind thrashing and sending her to police lock up and reasoned that there was nothing wrong in questioning the MLA about road development.
However, the manner in which the MLA's workers ill-treated her was totally wrong and their action signifies that no complaints could be lodged to leaders, she rued.
