Media workshop on organic farming concludes

The two-day media workshop organised jointly by Khelen Thokchom Trust and Manipur Organic Mission Manipur (MOMA) on the topic 'Role of media inorganic farming in Manipur' concluded on Monday.
On the last day of the workshop, a team of journalists inspected pineapple farms set up with the help of MOMA at Khousabung and Bunglon villages in Churachandpur district where they also interacted with the farmers.
Representatives of Clover Organic Private Limited, Manipur, which is a service provider of MOMA, also took part in the inspection.
One of the representatives of Clover informed that farming of pineapple began in Khousabung and Bunglon villages since 1947-1950 in a 600-acre land which has expanded to 150 hectares.
Informing that there are around 150 farmers engaged in pineapple plantation, the representation said process is underway to secure organic certifications for the villages.
A pineapple planted in Khousabung and Bungion village weigh around 900 grams to 1 kg and cost around Rs 20-25 each.
Pineapples are now being exported to other states with the help of MOMA.
Around 10 metric tonnes of pineapples were sold previous year, the representative informed.
The field visit was attended by Khelen Thokchom Trust vice president Nongmaithem Jonish and secretary S Sobhapati among others.
