UN Intl day in Support of victims of torture

With a call to stand united and remind the world that torture is a cruel violation of human rights, a four-day long practitioners' workshop on 'promoting well-being and resilience among youth person affected by conflict' has begun from today at Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Langol here.
The workshop is being organized jointly by Centre for Organisation Research and Education (COREH2H); Human to Human Trancultural Centre for Trauma and Torture Victims; Shija Hospitals and Research Institute; Society for HIV/AIDS and Lifetime Operation in Manipur; Centre for Women and Girls; Manipur Alliance for Child Rights; Giving Tree Foundation; Rurual Education and Action for Change-Manipur; Forum for Indigenous Perspective and Action; Human Rights Alert; Wide Angle and Community Network for Empowerment.
The inaugural function was graced by Dr Kh Palin, Chairman cum Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and Research Centre; Dr Linthoi Akoijam, Senior Clinical Psychologist (child specialist), MAX, New Delhi and Dr Rajaram Subbain, Consultant Psychologist, Antarang, Bangalore as presidium members.
Speaking about the workshop, Dr Laifungbam Debabrata Roy, President of CORE said that they have come together to honour the victims of torture and show them that they are not alone as well as to renew their mission for a better torture free world.
In his speech, Dr Rajaram Subbain highlighted the need to sensitize children on torture and bring them up without any punishment as a basic step to prevent tortures.
Dr Linthoi Akoijam also stressed on the need for collaboration of indigenous and western modalities of clinical psychology to effectively deliver rehabilitation to victims of torture.
