Imphal, June 26 2013:
While most of the MLAs from the valley during the Manipur Assembly session held in 1948, when Manipur was a Territorial Council, resolved to strip down the administrative powers of the King of Manipur, MLA Suisa, who was among the 5 Tangkhul MLAs, was in favour of retaining the administrative powers with the Manipuri King.
This clearly indicated that Tangkhuls have more respect for Manipuri King than any other communities in the State, ex-Minister RV Mingthing has stated.
Interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao over the burning issue of the State Government's proposal to take over Sana Konung ( Royal Palace), ex-Minister RV Mingthing stated that all the people in Manipur, both in the hills and the plains are indigenous people of the State.
So, one needs to respect the customary rights of every community.

He further stated that the King is the common symbol of the people both in the hills and the plain.
"Even during the Merger Agreement, Indian Union had recognized the King as the customary head of Manipur.
And, in the agreement it has been clearly mentioned that the private property of the King should be made distinct from the public property of the State", he pointed out.
Ex-Minister RV Mingthing also informed that during the coronation function of the King, the King was clad in traditional Tangkhul dresses.
The deep relation between the Tangkhuls and the Meeteis cannot be easily explained by the State Administration.
It can be better explained by the King, who is the customary head of Manipur.
"The titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba is one person who considers it right to maintain the good relation between the people of the Hills and the Plains", he added.
