International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking widely observed in State

As observed in various parts of the world, International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2013 was observed widely by various organizations under the theme "Make Health Your New High in Life, Not Drugs" in the State today.
The State level observance was organized by Social Welfare Department at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound with Principal Secretary of Social Welfare and Rural Development Barun Mitra as Chief Guest and Joint Secretary Th Rupachandra as President.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare Surrender A Shishak attended as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary Barun Mitra said that drug abuse and illicit trafficking have become a serious concern for the whole world today not just for the State or India.
All must join hands in combating the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and prevent the society from the doom, he appealed.

Surrender A Shishak said that drug addicts should be brought to the right path by adopting corrective action rather punishing them.
Meanwhile, the observance was also organized by Tamenglong District Social Welfare Department at Longmai Bazar Community Hall in Tamenglong.
Large number of people took part in the mass rally against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Friends of India NGO Drug Abuse Prevention (FINGODAP) also observed the day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking with MP Dr T Meinya as Chief Guest and President of FINGODAP Dr Kumar as President.
The day was also observed by National Service Scheme (NSS), Manipur University at Court Hall of Manipur University, Canchipur.
The observance was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof HNK Sarma as Chief Guest and Dean of School of Human and Environment Prof N Dev as President, while SP of NCB Imphal Robinson Guite was the Guest of Honour.
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking under the theme of of 'Global Action for Healthy Communities without Drugs' at Yangoiningthou Community hall, Bishnupur Bazaar today.
Maibam Rameshwor (MPS), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ops), Bishnupur; Thingom Mangi, Advisor of CADA Head Office; Sougaijam Tomba, E-Chairperson, Bishnupur Municipal Council; Md Nasir Ahmed, Deputy Special Class Contractor, Manipur Police Housing Corporation attended the observance as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Dr W Gulapi Singh, Retd.Additional Health & Family Welfare, Government of Manipur also participated as resource person.
The 9th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also observed under the auspices of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) .
Participating in the observance function held at the Press Club here, ex-minister and Manipur People's Party (MPP) advisor O Joy stressed on giving more impetus in tackling drug menace, corruption confronting Manipur and in improving law and order as well. He said, "The increasing number of roads, buildings and other infrastructure developments that we see today in the state are all useless until and unless we try to deal with the present drug menace, corruption and law and order situation prevailing here" .
Besides Joy, M Padamini Devi, president, AMADA, RK Ibungosana, Superintendent of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), regional unit Imphal and Dr K Komolini Devi, Deputy Director (PH), Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat were also present at the function.
