Imphal, May 13 2021:
People should undergo Covid-19 testing if they have any suspicion, along with consulting with medical experts and doctors at the earliest to protect themselves from the second wave of Covid-19, said JNIMS medical superintendent Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh.
In a virtual message, Dr Lokeshwar stated that it very risky to stay at home without testing after suspecting oneself and should immediately undergo Covid-19 testing.
If one is positive he/she should go for home isolation or get admitted in Community Home Isolation Centre or hospital and consult a doctor.
Patients in home isolation should maintain regular contacts with doctors and closely monitor their oxygen saturation level under the guidance of medical experts.
A normal person should have oxygen saturation rate of 94-98 per cent and if the saturation rate dips below 90 per cent one should be immediately taken to a hospital.
People with co-morbidities such as diabetes, hyper tension and heart problems must take extra precautions, he informed.
Dr Lokeshwar noted out the 20 deaths on May 11, six of them were patients of JNIMS.
On close examination it was found that all of them were brought to hospital after their oxygen saturation level fell to 35-66 per cent and many of them were co-morbid.
The second wave of Covid-19 has shown high rate of casualty affecting both aged and young with most of them dying due to decrease in oxygen level, he added.
Dr Lokeshwar continued that since the both young and old are succumbing to the second wave, it is of utmost importance that effective precautionary measures need to be taken.
If anyone contracts the disease he/she should at once consult doctors, take medicines and monitor the oxygen saturation level.
Taking precautionary steps in time will greatly help people from getting affected due to the second wave of Covid-19.Public should stringently follow all the SOPs given by the government, he appealed.
