Imphal, August 07 2021:
The state government is ignoring projects related to promotion of handloom products and weavers of the state, thus making the celebration of National Handloom Day meaningless, said Renu Handloom and Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited secretary Arambam Renu.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle on the occasion of National Handloom Day on Saturday, Renu reminded that handloom day makes every weaver of the country proud.
However, the state government has been ignoring projects already approved by the central government and this has created a sense of alienation among the weaversof the state.
The identity that the state has earned through handloom is due to the hard works of the weavers alone.
Handloom societies in the state had urged for implementing the projects, which will have no financial burden on the state government, on numerous occasions but no initiatives have been taken up so far, she lamented.
Renu, who has won two state awards and three national awards, stressed the need for proactive measures on the part of the government to support the weavers and promote the indigenous products of the state to the world.
This will help in improving the economy of the state to a great extent, she said, while urging the government to look into the matter.
