Brown sugar factory busted

As part of the government's War on Drugs' campaign, a team of 8 IRB raided and destroyed a brown sugar manufacturing unit found operating in Lilong at about 12.30 am Sunday and seized around Rs 82 crore worth of brown sugar.
According to a police report, on receiving information about presence of an illegal drug manufacturing unit at Lilong Chingkham Makha on Saturday evening, a combined team of 8 IRB and Lilong police station carried out a raid at the residence of one Imem Bibi (49) w/o (L) Salauddin of Lilong Chingkham Makha.
During the raid, one Yumkhaibam Mustafa (19) s/o Yumkhaibam Ahmad of Lilong Umang was found manufacturing the drugs.
The team further searched the house and recovered around 54.685 kg of brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 82 crore in the international market.
The team also seized other materials used in the illegal operation including chemicals, utensils, gas burner, cylinder, mobile phones and other items.
Both the seized items and the arrested person have been handed over to Lilong PS, the report conveyed.
Mention may be made that on June 13 night a drug factory in Thoubal district was busted and record total of 222.85 kg of brown sugar recovered by the police in the raid.
The brown sugar manufacturing unit was busted at Moijing Mina Bazar in Thoubal district.
A woman arrested during the raid had been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act.
