Imphal, August 07 2022:
Expressing deep concern over chain of unwanted incidents occurring in the past few days amidst ATSUM's agitation to denounce failure of members to pass the ADC Bill in the just concluded assembly session, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMl) has appealed to the apex body of the tribal students in the state to withdraw the total shutdown and economic blockade stir and instead look for alternative agitation for pursuing their demands and tribal rights.
According to a COCOMl statement, entire people of the state have witnessed the arrest of ATSUM leaders after its agitation for tabling ADC Bill in the state assembly carried forward with total shutdown and economic blockade while an organisation called Meetei Leepun locked the office of ATSUM for imposing economic blockade.
People have also witnessed torching of vehicles, hate comments which could flare up communal enmity on social media, ban on mobile data and imposition of CrPC 144 in different districts since the past few days.
Such evolving unwanted incidents have started disturbing peaceful co-existence of different communities in the state, the COCOMl statement said and appealed to ATSUM to look for other democratic form of agitation in pursuit of their demands instead of total shutdown and economic blockade.
COCOMl also appealed to organisations pursuing their rights/demands not to take up any step which could affect Manipur's integrity and incite communal riot.
In view of the emerging volatile situation in the state, COCOMI also appealed to Meetei Leepun not to take any step which could portray Meetei community in the wrong light while taking up action in the interest of entire people of the state.
It also said that Manipur government should hold talk with all stakeholders to bring normalcy and prevent unwanted incidents at the earliest.
