Plantation drives, tricolour campaign conducted

Phundrei Battalion of IGAR (South) organised mass tree plantation drive at Papal and Sapang Salai villages in Thoubal district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the drives were conducted under the joint efforts of Phundrei Battalion, Thoubal Forest Division and local villagers with an aim to promote green ecology in the area as well as instilling a sense of responsibility towards nature.
A total of 3816 saplings of different types of plants were planted at various locations around both villages.
Public Health Engineering Department, Imphal also organised a tree plantation cum social service at Wairi under Khundrakpam assembly constituency on Saturday.
Apart from conducting the tree plantation drive and social service around Wairi water supply scheme complex, an awareness rally on water scarcity due to environmental degradation was also taken out around Wairi with the participation of Waiton GP pradhan P Surbala, Waiton Ward No 7 member Y Anibala, Wairi Yakairol Club president Netrajit and many local people.
As part of the programme, a house-to-house campaign on hoisting the tricolour in connection with the 75th year of India's independence was also conducted.
