Imphal, April 29 2015 :
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), on Wednesday strongly condemned the unruly act of 25 Assam Rifles outpost commander Major Vinod and his foot soldiers for allegedly threatening to shoot Customs Officer Assistant Commissioner Gaikhonlung Panmei.
He was detained, harassed, grilled and psychologically pressurized.
In a statement issued by ZYF President Titus Kamei it was alleged that the Assam Rifles excesses expose the attitude of mainland Indians towards the North East people and demanded to book the culprits under rule of the land.
Titus said recently three labourers who are engaged for construction works of bridge and road development near 25 AR post were abducted from the work sites by some undergrounds.
The commander and his foot soldiers could not do anything in securing release of those abducted citizens but they displayed their skills in harassing the government officer who was on an official duty.
The incident has completely disgraced not only the entire AR but also to the security forces.
The incident indicates lack of discipline and total disregard to tribal officers who are the lawful citizens.
The Youth front also alleged that this outpost situated on IT road subjects the people and passengers to harassment, inconveniences, unnecessary detention, interrogation to traveling on the road in the name of checking or frisking.
The Front does not object to the checking and frisking of vehicles under permissible legal limitations but condemned the excessive acts and giving harassment.
Tutus further said Assam Rifles outpost located in many Tamenglong districts have often committed excessive acts in the past without sparing even the government officials.
The ZYF urged Chief Minister of Manipur to rein in the 25 AR and take appropriate action against Major Vinod in order to avoid recurrence of similar incident in future.
