State to have a PF sub-regional office

With an aim to cater to the need for immediate redressal of grievances and also to bring more employees under the social security net, action has to be taken by state government to establish a sub-regional provident fund commissioner office in the city.
The latest development came after Dr A Mohendra Raju, Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Kolkata Zone, who is in-charge of West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand and entire North Eastern states, visited here and hold a series of discussions with various stakeholders like employers, employees, trade unions and state government officials.
During his visit, Raju also met Chief Secretary and Secretary cum Labour Commissioner, Government of Manipur on 17th June and discussed about extension of social security benefits to the employees of District Rural Development Agency, Manipur Rural Road Development Corporation, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation and teachers under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Khundrakpam Rupeshore Singh, Regional PF Commissioner-II, Guwahati (Camp-Imphal) informed in a press note.
The Chief Secretary and Secretary cum Labour Commissioner also assured that concrete action shall be taken to bring employees of State undertakings under the ambit of the Act and also agreed to examine the issue of opening a sub-regional office at Imphal.
Earlier, in another meeting held at Classic Hotel on 14th June, Raju stressed on the need for providing social security benefits to all employees under the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provident Act-1952 .
Employees under the ambit of the Act go beyond deduction of PF.
The security given by the Act is unparallel; if an employee is made a member of PF and expires after working for few days his wife/husband, children of dependent parent is assured of lifelong pension, Mohendra Raju said.
