Mercury soars

Imphal, June 18 2013:
According to data collected from weather stations installed in different parts of the State, maximum average temperature at Imphal recorded 34 degree Celsius at Imphal valley during the past 5 days.
Moreh recorded maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius on June 17 whereas Churachandpur, Thoubal and Bishnupur recorded 34/35 degree Celsius.
Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong were little cooler at 32/33 degree Celsius.
Average maximum temperature between noon and 4 pm during the past five days was not less than 34 degree Celsius.
At 1 am, average temperature ranges between 26 to 28 degree Celsius.
Mercury level goes down a bit between 3 to 5 in the morning.
Average temperature at 5 am was 22.9 degree Celsius before it jumped to 26.6 degree Celsius at 8 am.
According to a report of the Forest Survey of India published in 2011, Manipur has lost 190 Sq Kms of forest area whereas the number of vehicles has shot up to around nine lakhs.
