Stir called off

Work Charge and Muster Roll employees of Minor Irrigation Department who have been agitating since June 10 demanding payment of their pending salaries have agreed to call off their agitation temporarily after they came to an understanding with MI Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra.
All Manipur Minor Irrigation Department Employees' Association president S Sanjit said that they held a meeting with MI Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra, MI Chief Engineer Shyambabu, Principal Secretary Akhilesh Jha and other high-ranking officials of the department.
The Government officials assured the agitating employees that all efforts would be made to fulfil their demands at the earliest.
On receiving this assurance, the employees agreed to suspend their agitation till July 31 .
However, if no positive action can be seen by July 31, the suspended agitation would be resumed with more vigour from the next day.
Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra said that arrangements are being made to pay four months' salaries to the Work Charge and Muster Roll Employees of MI Department shortly.
Incidentally, these employees have not been getting their monthly salaries since August last year.
Other demands of the association would be apprised to the Chief Minister so as to solve them permanently, Meghachandra stated.
