Sunshine fest gives new hope to underprivileged children

Imphal, June 18 2013:
In a noble effort to develop the young minds and enhance education of deprived children, Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan (SSA), Bishnupur along with Out of School Consultative Group organized a four-day educational festival named "The Sunshine Children's Festival" at Ningthoukhong Model High School from June 12 to June 15 .
Around 250 children mostly from underprivileged families in Bishnupur district participated in the festival.
The participants stayed residentially inside the school campus and they were imparted morning lessons in martial art of Thang-ta and horse riding to promote healthy lifestyle through indigenous sports.
Essay competition in Meetei Mayek was also held for the children.
The children also interacted with some prominent child rights activists on issues of child trafficking and child protection.
They had interactive sessions with Parliamentary Secretary of YAS and Tourism M Prithviraj, MLA of Kumbi Constituency S Bira, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Jason A Shimray, SP of Bishnupur Th Radheshyam, noted journalist Rupachandra Yumnam and ASPD Ng Bhogendro.

The participants were also taught on fire safety and hazards by Manipur Fire Service.
Prizes and awards were also distributed to the participants on the closing function of the festival held on June 15 .
The function was attended by Parliamentary Secretary of YAS and Tourism M Prithviraj as Chief Guest and DC of Bishnupur Jason Shimray as President, while MLA of Kumbi Constituency S Bira and ZEO Kh Yaima attended as Guests of Honour.
