Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC) organisation vehemently condemned the recent extension of Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 (AFSPA) for another term in Nagaland saying that it is not only unfortunate and condemnable, but also shows how incapable government is.
In a press statement issued by SSSC convener Ravi Nitesh said that everyone knows that AFSPA is discriminatory and a kind of unconstitutional and harsh act that provides extraordinary powers to security forces in disturbed regions.
SSSC further condemned the Union Minister Kiren Rijiju who is also from North East for not come against the MHA order.
Rijiju only proved himself as an opportunist politician rather than being a true representative of people.
SSSC also appealed to the central government to re consider the orders and to adopt measures and strategies that can save people of AFSPA imposed in the region from human rights violations. The untrammelled powers given to the security forces have caused human rights violations.
Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign will continue fighting against AFSPA.
SSSC reposes its faith on non violent struggle of Irom Sharmila.
Ravi Nitesh further said that they highlight the struggle of Irom Sharmila in national wide by organising numerous events, public demonstrations and other activities in across the nation and in few other countries to advocate Repeal of AFSPA from all regions, including North East Region states and of J&K.SSSC still believes that its struggle is against state repression that anyone can see through AFSPA that is imposed in J&K and North east region states, and therefore struggle will continue against all human rights violations by security forces in these regions.
SSSC alleged that that extension of AFSPA in Nagaland shows that despite clear verdict in centre, BJP shows weak political party and does not have courage to repeal the act in respect of people.
The statement said "It seems that it is military that is ruling the democracy in these regions and state democracy has failed itself by adopting such repressive paths of handing over powers in military hand.
It is nothing more than surrender.
Also, state government of Nagaland is similarly incapable in handling of situation and in advocating the voice to Repeal AFSPA" .
SSSC was unhappy that even elected MPs and MLAs from North East were not coming forward with full courage and strength to voice for Repeal of AFSPA.
AFSPA imposed region from human rights violations.
SSSC will continue its efforts to advocate for Repeal of AFSPA, the statement added.
