Vehicle theft cases on rise in state

Imphal, April 21 2022:
With the Covid pandemic subsiding in the state, a slew of vehicle theft cases are being reported on daily basis.
As such, Manipur Police Department has formed an Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell led by ADGP (L/O) to handle the cases, in addition to taking up measures to apprehend the vehicle thieves.
Despite this, many vehicles were reportedly stolen from educational institutions, offices, hospitals, private residences and other places in the current month alone, thus raising concerns and suspicions of the existence of clandestine network of vehicle lifters.
On April 20, an Alto LX1 Silver (MN06L 3904), belonging to a staff of Forest Department parked near the gate of the Department in Sanjenthong, was reported stolen.
The staff found the vehicle missing while coming out after finishing duty and immediately, filed a complaint to Porompat Police.
On the intervening night of April 19 and 20, one white Activa 3G (MN 06 SB 3471), which was parked near own residential gate in Khongman Zone-IV, was found stolen.
The owner filed a complaint to Irilbung Police on April 20 .
A similar incident was reported during the same timeline, wherein one KTM 125 Duke (MN06 SE 6845) parked at the outhouse of a residence in Kiyamgei Khoirom Leikai, was stolen.
The KTM owner also filed a complaint to Irilbung Police on April 20.On the other hand, a KTM RC 200 (MN 01 AH 9376) parked at Chingnungkhok, was reportedly stolen on April 17, while the owner was meeting some acquaintances in the area sometime around 3.30 pm to 4pm.A complaint was filed to Lamlai police in this regard.
Unknown miscreants also stole a majestic brown coloured Activa 5G (MN 05E1409) from Singjamei Chongtham Leikai on April 19 morn ing.
The owner had parked the vehicle in front of a tuition centre while they were attending the class.
A complaint was filed to Singjamei police the same day.
Vehicles of people visiting the hospital have not been spared as well.
On the morning of April 20, unknown miscreants stole a Royal Enfield classic 350 ABS 2019 (MN01AF 9600), parked in front of Advanced Hospital, Palace Compound as owner visited the hospital.
A complaint was filed'to Porompat police the same day.
On April 19 night, a magnificent copper coloured Activa 6G (MN 06 SF 0061), which was parked in front of RIMS OT, was stolen.
The owner had only briefly parked the vehicle as he rushed around to helpa patient, but found it missing.
A complaint was filed to Lamphel police in this regard.
On April 12 morning, an Auto Diesel (MN02G 4260) parked in front of RIMS gate was also stolen.
The Auto was used in transporting a patient to the hospital.
The driver found it missing when he came out of the hospital after helping the patient party.
A complaint was filed to Lamphel police the next day.
On April 8, a Gixxer SF 155 CC parked at RIMS PG Gents Hostel No 5 Lokpa House was reported stolen.
The vehicle had yet to get its registration number.
A complaint was filed to Lamphel police in this regard.
On April 7, a Royal Enfield Classic 350 (MN 04G 1800) parked at Chingnungkhok was found stolen while the owner was hiking up the hill.
The owner found the vehicle missing when he came down and hied a complaint at Lamlai police the same day.
Meanwhile, a gun metal grey coloured Royal Enfield 350 CC (MN 01AL1624) parked in front of Secured Building Office, North AOC was reportedly stolen on April 18.The owner was visiting the Office for some work and found the vehicle missing while coming out.
A report was filed to Imphal Police the next day.
According to the owners of the stolen vehicles, they are yet to get back their vehicles or see the vehicle thieves getting arrested.
