AMUCO urges Govt to help poor families

All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has appealed to state government to take up necessary measure for providing special assistance to landless and economically weak families.
In a statement, AMUCO assistant general secretary MM Thambou stressed that the government should accord priority to mitigate suffering of the landless and economically weak families during this COVID-19 pandemic and take up necessary measures to provide assistance to this group of people.
There are more than one lakh indigenous people who have no land or paddy field and it is necessary to include this group of people in the government's policy to protect indigenous people, he said, while also calling upon broad minded people of Manipur to identify this group of people and provide assistance during COVID-19 pandemic and curfew.
The AMUCO secretary further said that the organisation in coordination with EKTA Parishad Manipur started distribution of edible items to economically weak families who are unable to work and earn livelihood due to protracted imposition of curfew and lockdown by the government to contain the second wave of COVID-19.The distribution started at nine places in Imphal East district on the first day and altogether 392 identified families who have no land or paddy field were provided potato, salt and other edible items.
Altogether 127 families of Nongpok Sanjenbam, 68 of Oksu Ningthemcha Khuld, 55 of Takhel, 22 of Nongpok Kakching, 22 of Leimakhongpal, 40 of Chana, 54 of Nongdam, 25 of Nongren and 35 families of Nongpok Heirok benefited from the joint venture of AMUCO and EKTA Parishad, the statement added.
EKTA Parishad state co-ordinator A Rishikanta Sharma, Steering Committee chief N Bidyarani Devi and Imphal West district in-charge S Tania Chanu also took part during the distribution activities on Saturday.
