Govt approves 60 schools under School Fagathansi Mission

The state government has selected one school each in all the 60 assembly segments for implementation of infrastructural development projects under the second phase of the School Fag-athansi Mission.
Making the announcement at his Old Secretariat conference hall on Saturday, education minister S Rajen Singh elaborated that implementation of Mission's second phase will include development of infrastructure, civil works like repairing and renovation of class-rooms/construction of toilet blocks & additional class rooms, provision of dual desk and benches, arrangement of posting of teachers, etc.
An order has been already issued in this regard, said the minister, who also announced names of the schools and informed that the second is being initiated after the successful implementation of the first phase subsequent to launch of the ambitious project by chief minister N Biren Singh.
He said that encouraging number of students enrolled in government schools underscore success of the first phase of the Mission emboldened the government to extend and expand the project through implementation of various infrastructure development works in the second phase.
Noting that COVID-19 pandemic has been seriously impacting all sections of the society and sectors, he said the pace of development of government schools could have been accelerated had the pandemic not occurred.
A major change can be seen on improvement of government schools during the recent years.
The percentage of enrolment in government schools increased unexpectedly but encouragingly, Rajen said and expressed confidence that at the same trend then rate of students' drop-out in the state will be reduced significantly.
Rajen also furnished photographs of completed school buildings/blocs and other infrastructure which had been taken up under the first phase of the Mission to the media and appealed to the stakeholders concerned to extend cooperation to the government and education department in the implementation of the second phase.
Distribution of items including school uniforms, utensils, school bags, sports materials of the second phase will be started soon, he added.
Education commissioner M Harekrishna, director L Nandakumar Singh, deputy secretary (Education/S) T Phulen Meitei and additional director (Education/ Valley) Kh Biseshwor were also present during the media briefing.
