Seminar on Tourism development begins

Promotion and development of tourism in the State with the cooperation and support of both the State Government and other stakeholders is the need of the hour, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has exclaimed.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a two-day long seminar on "Strategy for Tourism Development & Capacity Building in Manipur" at Classic Hotel here.
The seminar is being organized by Manipur Tourism Forum under the sponsorship of the state Government.
Inaugurating the seminar, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that tourism is one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in the world.
Manipur which is rich in culture, tradition and sports can also boost itself in the field of tourism.
The favourable climatic condition of the State and its naturally gifted eye catching landscapes can definitely attract tourists from all over the globe.
All that we need is to develop the State as a tourist destination and make the visiting tourists feel at home.

But we should make it certain that the development of tourism should not be at the cost of the surrounding environment and the culture and tradition of the State, the Chief Minister added.
He further stated that the development and promotion of tourism in the State needs the cooperation of both the State and other stakeholders.
Both need to go together hand in hand under the PPP model.
On its part, the State Government would do whatever possible in this regard.
Delivering the Presidential speech, M Prithiviraj, Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of Tourism, observed that participation of public is very much needed for development of tourism in the State.
The State Government is also taking up various schemes for the promotion and development of tourism.
The function was also attended by Chief Secretary DS Poonia as Guest of Honour.
The first session of the seminar was chaired by Prof N Mohendro.
O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur spoke on Look East Policy.
Hrishikesh Modak, Project Director of Manipur Film Development Society; Dr Kh Palin, Managing Director, Shija Hospital and N Ibungochaobi, former President of MMTA also spoke on different topics as resource persons.
